Car engine problems can be due to a variety of issues. Many of these problems, however, can be prevented by regular servicing. As your Chrysler dealer in Peotone, IL, we’re here to help you. We’d like to tell you more about some common problems that our expert technicians can repair for you.

Poor Fuel Efficiency

Your Chrysler engine is known for its fuel efficiency. Fuel is expensive, and your engine’s efficiency allows you to save money as you drive. If you find you have to make more frequent trips to the pump than you used to, your engine has a problem. Various issues can cause increased fuel usage, including a clogged fuel filter, blocked air filter, damaged oxygen sensors, or a damaged mass flow sensor.

A blocked air filter, for example, reduces the amount of air in your engine. Air is vital for combustion, as your engine uses far more air than fuel. If your engine lacks air, combustion will become much less efficient. A lack of air will lead to damage to other components like spark plugs. If this problem continues, it can eventually damage the cylinders and pistons. Our technicians will find and repair the problem.

Worn Ignition Coil

Every driver knows that the spark plugs ignite the fuel-air mix, which creates combustion. A spark plug, however, doesn’t produce enough power to ignite this mix. An ignition coil is connected to each spark plug, and they boost the charge that fires the cylinders. A spark plug provides 20 volts of power, and the ignition coil expands this to 30,0000.

Ignition coils can burn out in time, and they can be affected by other worn or damaged components. An ignition coil that isn’t working will prevent its attached spark plug from firing. A failed spark plug causes engine misfiring in the affected cylinder. Regular engine misfiring will damage a cylinder, and possibly other components like the catalytic converter. We can replace the damaged coil, and the misfiring will disappear.

Dirty Intake Manifold

The intake manifold is the part of your engine where air and fuel mix before they enter the cylinders. Fuel contains a variety of chemicals, including carbon. If your engine hasn’t been serviced for a while, carbon deposits can build up in the manifold. These deposits can block the flow of air or fuel, and they also raise the fuel-to-air ratio.

Our technicians can swiftly clear any blockage in the manifold. Once this is done, you’ll notice an immediate improvement in your engine’s performance and power.
